The Realtor® Title

What’s the idea behind the REALTOR® title? Yes, there is a MAJOR difference between being a Realtor® and being a real estate agent. The biggest difference being the knowledge and commitment to the Realtor® Code Of Ethics. I just had the pleasure of of completing my review and exam of and although I uphold the standards of the code everyday, it is always inspiring to reread the code in it’s entirety. It makes me proud to be a REALTOR and a member of an organization goal is to serve the real estate needs of public. Got a moment to learn more? Read on: REALTOR’s® strive to uphold professionalism and extraordinary service to their clients, the protection of real property rights and honesty and fair dealing with the public. They are actually held to this standard by committing to a Code of Ethics. This Code was drafted in 1913! Before medical doctors and other professions had even developed ethical guidelines for their respective industries. The REALTOR® Code of Ethics addresses 3 major areas: Duties to Clients and Customers, Duties to the Public, and Duties to REALTORs®. Every 4 years a REALTOR® is required to review and be tested on knowledge of this code. I’d like to share the first 2 paragraphs of the Preamble with you. Please feel free to contact me if you have questions about the REALTOR® Code of Ethics or any other real estate question. And, oh yes, I did pass my exam. Under all is the land. Upon its utilization and widely allocated ownership depends the survival and growth of free institutions and of our civilization. REALTORs® should recognize that the interests of the nation and its citizens require the highest and best use of the land and the widest distribution of land ownership. They require the creation of adequate housing, the building of functioning cities, the development of productive industries and farms, and the preservation of a healthful environment. Such interest impose obligations beyond those of ordinary commerce. They impose grave social responsibility and a patriotic duty to which REALTORs® should dedicate themselves, and for which they should be diligent in preparing themselves. REALTORs®, therefore, are zealous to maintain and improve the standards of their calling and share with their fellow REALTORs® a common responsibility for its integrity and honor.
